BEHIND THE NAME

Meraki: [may-rah-kee] greek (n. ) to put something of yourself into your work. Soul. Creativity. Love.

In 2017, I convinced three of my friends to have a girls night out and take a metal smithing class. I ended up falling in love with the process of turning metal into  beautiful pieces of jewelry. I knew it was something I wanted to pursue, but I was overwhelmed with all the equipment I would need. I also knew if I just found the right teacher, or did enough online searches I would be able to figure it all out.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” -Paul Coehlo

Three years later, I came across a girl who made jewelry out of her van. I paid her a little bit of money and in return I got a list of all the supplies needed to get started and a short refresher on metalsmithing. Once I had my studio and tools, I stayed up all night making jewelry and even sometimes forgetting to eat!  I truly realized my passion and knew it was something I wanted to share with the world.  A few months later, Meraki Out West was born.

I believe jewelry tells a story. When given, jewelry is a thoughtful and memorable gift. When received, the receiver rarely forgets where their jewelry came from or who gave it to them. I create each piece of jewelry by hand with careful intentions knowing that each piece will have a story to tell.

Currently, I reside out west and much of my designs are inspired by my travels around West Texas, Utah, and love for the national parks. When I’m not making jewelry, you can find me climbing mountains, paddling rivers, and exploring with my two chocolate labs, Houston and Georgie.

A portion all profits from the National Parks Collection will be donated to the National Parks Foundation as gratitude and support for their immeasurable efforts in protecting America's treasured lands.
